Dump the Pump and Board the Bus for Free

Bay Town Trolley will participate in nation-wide transit day

[Panama City, Fla.] – Representatives from Bay Town Trolley announced that the system will participate in the twelfth annual National Dump the Pump Day by offering free rides to all patrons on June 15. Started in 2005 by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), Dump the Pump is celebrated in cities across the nation as people get out of their cars and take transit to school and work. In addition free rides, Bay Town Trolley will surprise riders on select routes with a special, celebratory bus next Thursday with on-board entertainment, transit trivia and prizes.

“Public transportation is a vital part of our thriving community, and Bay Town Trolley is committed to serving those who live, work and visit here,” said Commissioner Mike Nichols, Chairman of the Bay County Transportation Planning Organization (TPO). “Our routes connect residents to employment, healthcare and education as well as connecting visitors to local businesses. Dump the Pump Day is a great way to celebrate the service, and we’re thrilled to provide fare-free rides for our fixed routes all day.”

To add to the day’s festivities, Bay Town Trolley will have a special bus to surprise riders. Those onboard the celebration bus will be entertained by DJ Rad Music Panama City Productions and will have the chance to win free bus passes or gift cards from Pineapple Willy’s and Original Three Brothers from Italy by correctly answering transit-related trivia.

Those interested in trying transit or in winning prizes can utilize the system’s online trip planner or get transit directions via Google and Bing! maps.
